If you’re unfamiliar, MODEX is a biennial trade show in Atlanta, GA hosted by MHI, the material handling industry’s preeminent trade association. It runs for four days, and this year’s show is Monday, March 28 to Thursday, March 31 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA.
Simply put, MODEX is the pinnacle of material handling trade shows. It can be the catalyst that takes your manufacturing and distribution operations from simply surviving to dynamically thriving. This massive trade show boasts incredible opportunities for your business to learn from the industry’s best minds, connect with supply chain solution providers and network with your industry peers. There is something for every business that operates in the material handling industry.

This kickoff article will give some tips on what you should to start doing now to make the most out of MODEX 2022.
Step One: Register.
This one’s simple enough. You can’t attend the show if you don’t register! MHI has an entire MODEX website set up to get you every bit of information you can image about the show, including keynote speakers, the agenda, hotel and travel details, vendor information, and more.

Step Two: Scout the floor.
The Show Floor at MODEX can be overwhelming. The trade show is so big it’s divided into separate sections of vendors showcasing their new material handling products and solutions:
- Manufacturing & Assembly Solutions,
- Fulfillment & Delivery Solutions,
- Transportation & Logistics Solutions,
- IT Solutions, and
- Emerging Technologies Solutions.
The best thing to do when preparing for MODEX is to scout the show floor and vendor list ahead of time. Identify some of the vendors or exhibitors that you’re most interested in seeing. It could be some of your best clients, a vendor you have great relationship with and want to meet in person or simply a company that you think it doing new and cool stuff and want to check it out. Of course, there will be plenty of time for you to wander the show floor yourself to find new and exciting things, so don’t think you have to plan every minute of every day. It’s supposed to be fun after all.
Step Three: Outline your schedule.
The educational sessions at MODEX 2022 look like they’re going to be great. The keynote lineup features an impressive array of executives from the world's biggest companies as well as an appearance by none other than Shaquille O’Neal himself… pretty cool! In addition to the Keynotes, there are more than 100+ free education sessions from the industry’s best minds how key industry trends and innovations can transform your manufacturing and supply chain operations.
We recommend taking a deep dive into the education sessions and picking a few per day of ones that you think will have the biggest impact on your work. Pro tip: add these sessions into your outlook or other calendar — with time, topic, and location details —so you can organize your schedule easily without needing to reference the MODEX 2022 app while you’re at the show.
Step Four: Set up vendor meetings now.
We mentioned in step two that there’s a strong likelihood you’ll be looking to meet with vendors, exhibitors, and clients while you’re out on the floor at MODEX. It’s a great opportunity to visit with the people you do business with most often as well as those you look to do business with in the future. If you’re planning a project, on the hunt for a new solution, or even looking for new vendors to augment your growing business, take the time to get them on your calendar and you on theirs now, before they fill up.
